Crisis Intervention Advocate

PRIMARY FUNCTION: Provide crisis intervention, supportive empowerment counseling, advocacy, accompaniment and case management in a manner consistent with the mission of WRC and in full compliance with all policies and procedures of the agency. Services provided to victims of sexual assault and victims of domestic violence may be done over the telephone, in shelter or as assigned.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. Respond to calls for assistance and information from program participants as part of the crisis response service. Provide intervention via the hotline, in person and in residence. Act as an advocate with legal, medical and social service systems.

2. Provide crisis intervention, supportive empowerment counseling, case management and advocacy to program participants.

3. Provide accompaniment as necessary to police stations, hospitals, district justices' offices and medical facilities.

4. Assess the needs of individual program participants, develop service plans, and provide case management and advocacy for each program participant. Conduct follow up activities with program participants.

5. Enforce and monitor house rules, safety rules, policies and procedures in the shelter and in the entire building. Retain working knowledge of security systems.

6. Conduct daily safety checks, including: checking doors, windows, and lighting of building and report any safety issues/hazards to supervisor.

7. Rotate into shelter staff schedule as needed.

8. Act as a resource for staff regarding information and referral contacts in the community.

9. Orient and mentor volunteers.

10. Maintain client case records. Communicate essential information in appropriate logs in accordance with WRC policy and procedures.

11. Attend staff meetings, participate in in-service training and related professional activities as assigned.

12. Perform other duties as assigned to assure compliance with all regulations of the shelter in serving those in need of services.

CRISIS INTERVENTION ADVOCATE QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor's degree in social work or related human services field or
  • A combination of four years education, experience and skill in working with victims of domestic violence and/or sexual assault.
  • Bi-lingual, bi-cultural individual or person with ability to speak language other than English and experience working with other cultures preferred.
  • Applicant must successfully complete the WRC crisis intervention training within six months of hire.
  • Travel is necessary and access to reliable transportation is essential, including for training and development which may necessitate being out of the area for a period of time (overnight stays).
  • Must be willing to schedule working hours to coincide with the priorities of the Center.
  • Must pass Act 33, Act 34, and FBI background clearances.
