The Nurse Leader at the Edward R. Leahy Jr. Clinic for the Uninsured is responsible for providing high-quality healthcare to uninsured patients while supporting the educational experience of nursing, allied health and medical students. This role involves chronic disease management and wellness and disease prevention activities for individual patients, participation in population health initiatives in the community served by the clinic, and student mentorship.
Position will work 20 hours per week. Tuesdays and Thursdays from 12 pm to 8 pm and the remaining hours are flexible in terms of the day of the week. |
Essential Duties:
- Demonstrate excellent clinical judgement, in accordance with clinic protocols, to provide nursing care for persons with acute and chronic conditions
- Conduct in-house testing procedures and therapeutic treatments following clinic protocols
- Coordinate patient flow to ensure efficient and compassionate care delivery
- Educate patients on chronic disease management, preventive care, and healthy lifestyle choices
- Supervise and support clinic volunteers, including non-clinical personnel and student volunteers from the University of Scranton and Geisinger Commonwealth School of Medicine
- Manage optimal patient flow from patient intake to discharge
- Support the development, implementation, and evaluation of educational programs for clinic patients
- Conduct staff and volunteer training sessions to ensure maintenance of competencies for clinical procedures
- Provide and facilitate learning opportunities for University of Scranton and Geisinger Commonwealth School of Medicine students through observation experiences and hands-on practical engagements
- Provide guidance and mentorship to nursing students, volunteer students, and new and established clinical staff
- Mentor students in the design and delivery of health promotion and disease prevention programs for the clinic community
- Maintain accurate and confidential patient records in compliance with clinic policies, regulatory and HIPPA standards
- Assist in developing, updating, and implementing clinic policies and procedures
- Monitor and report on patient compliance with treatment protocols
- Mentor and assist students with patient case management to promote patient compliance with treatment protocols
- Collaborate with various healthcare partners to ensure comprehensive care and resource accessibility for patients
- Develop community resources for services beyond the clinic’s scope
- Review and oversee management of accurate and confidential medical records
- Represent the clinic within the community to enhance recognition and access to resources
- Participate in quality assurance activities
- Implement corrective actions and track results to ensure continuous improvement
Qualifications:
- Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) from an accredited institution
- Current PA licensure as a Registered Nurse (RN)
- Minimum of two (2) years of professional nursing experience, preferably in community health or primary care settings
- Experience in an educational role with adolescent/young adult populations is preferred
