ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS, PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES AND OBJECTIVES:

The Resource Officer serves a supportive role to the Public Safety department. This position interacts with students, faculty, staff, visitors & other members of the community, performing customer service duties, and to assist in maintaining a safe and healthy college environment.

THIS POSITION IS DESIGNATED AS ESSENTIAL PERSONNEL.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  1. Logs, screens, monitors, and tracks visitors while they are in the residence halls. 
  2. Informs Public Safety Officers in the event of an incident or if activities of a questionable/suspicious nature are observed and appropriate action is required.
  3. Completes non-criminal incident reports (for example visitation violations) in the Omnigo system in a timely manner. Completes end of shift reports in the Omnigo System at the conclusion of each shift.
  4. Familiarizes themselves with the public and college protocols, ordinances, statutes, regulations, policies and procedures.
  5. Serves as a support agent in any alarm from the burglar and/or fire alarms used to prevent or detect unauthorized intrusion, robbery, burglary, theft, pilferage and other losses on or around the premises, during shift.
  6. In the absence of a Public Safety Officer, the Resource Officer will escort any service personnel who enter the campus buildings to service any and all equipment, to include, but not limited to fire/burglar alarms, fire sprinkler service personnel and/or other approved college vendors.
  7. Notifies the appropriate personnel of unsafe structures, defective property, and dangerous conditions he/she observes. If necessary, the Resource Officer may take measures that will protect the public until the condition has been properly corrected.
  8. Logs all incident reports into the incident reporting system and sends to the proper administrators for review and response, in a timely manner.
  9. Performs all other duties as assigned.

3. Ability to remain calm and rational, think logically and act quickly in any situation, to include emergent situations.

4. Ability to communicate effectively and work harmoniously with peers, subordinates and supervisors.

5. Ability to maintain confidentiality

EDUCATION:

- High School diploma or equivalent is required

- Associates Degree in criminal justice preferred.

EXPERIENCE:

- 1-2 years experience in organized safety and/or community service work preferred.

ESSENTIAL PERSONNEL DESIGNATION: It is to be understood that this position is categorized as “essential” and requires employee’s attendance during snow events, emergency situations (if required) and when the school is closed for business.
