The manager of news and media relations reports to the Senior Director of University Communication and is responsible for maintaining the flow of news and information for Royal News, social media and local, regional and national media outlets and serves as the University’s principal liaison with those outlets.
- Identify, research, create and distribute a high volume of quality news and feature material, including an extensive hometown release strategy, that is attuned to the University’s marketing and branding priorities and strategies
- Cultivate and maintain a network of relationships with local, regional and key national media through regular professional contacts
- Field and respond to media inquiries and opportunities, including serving as the University’s spokesperson on routine activities or issues when directed
- Write and distribute media advisories for University activities and events and assist in preparing University news conferences and announcements
- Offer professional assistance and direction to departments in promoting their accomplishments, activities and events
- Coordinate photography and video support for news and University events
- Actively participate in developing social media, Royal News and website content of various types in collaboration with the University Editor & Social Media Manager and others
- Assist in the University’s crisis communication needs, including serving as an Incident Management Team member supporting the Public Information Officer
- Prepare regular reports on media placements for the Senior Director of University Communication and other University constituencies
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in journalism, communication, marketing, English or related field
- Three (3) to five (5) years of related professional experience in marketing, communication, public relations, journalism or a related field
- Experience in higher education setting preferred
