ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS, PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES AND OBJECTIVES:

 

As a full-time faculty member, the fundamental responsibilities include teaching courses in the math and science division and fulfilling any accompanying duties as an instructor at Lackawanna College. This position will be responsible for a course load of 27 credits per academic year. 

Faculty members are encouraged and expected to contribute to the strategic vision for their departments and committees and participate in college-wide, academic affairs, and division-level initiatives. Faculty members also serve as academic advisors. Faculty are encouraged to think creatively and innovatively to propose ways to enhance and/or maintain programs and courses within their divisions. 

This position reports to the Dean of Curriculum and Faculty Affairs, although the division chair will serve as a primary contact and support. The position is a 10-month appointment.

 

 

 

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  1. Prepare and deliver effective instruction in a wide range of math, science, and lab courses, using contemporary methods with a strong outcomes-based teaching model. 
  2. Develop/teach new courses to meet the changing needs of an increasingly technological workplace, through our learning management system (Canvas).
  3. Conduct student learning outcome assessments and implement pedagogical and curricular changes accordingly. 
  4. Participate actively in departmental affairs and division-level planning.
  5. Aid in the evaluation and development of the math and science curriculum and program assessment.  
  6. Serve as an academic advisor for students during the semester. 
  7. Continue professional and educational growth by taking advantage of in-house and external development opportunities.
  8. Contribute to the College and community through participation in College functions and events.
  9. Set up science labs, including ordering and proper disposition of materials. 
  10. Other duties and responsibilities as assigned.

 

 

EXPERIENCE/KEY COMPETENCIES:
 

  1. Successful classroom experience using creative pedagogy and/or technology to enhance and/or facilitate the learning experience. 
  2. Excellent interpersonal skills necessary to maintain effective working relationships with students of diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, and ethnic backgrounds. 
  3. Knowledge of current trends in post-secondary education and a willingness to incorporate them into lessons, materials, and assessments.
  4. Experience working in a laboratory setting preferred. 
  5. Understanding of laboratory safety protocols and requirements. 
  6. Passion for serving students, collaborating across the institution to achieve goals, and supporting colleagues.

 

 

 

EDUCATION 

 

  1. Master’s degree required. 

Degrees in progress: To be conferred on or before December 2025 will be considered, provided that the applicant also submits required information (transcripts, course program, etc.).

 

EXPERIENCE

  1. Demonstrated teaching experience at the college level.
  2. Demonstrated use of technology and/or project-based learning in the classroom to enhance learning experiences and strengthen retention.
  3. Experience with course development at the college level.
