Serve and protect the University Community through the delivery of caring, competent, and professional police services, by upholding the sanctity and integrity of the law and the institution that is the University of Scranton.
- Professionally and courteously manage all incidents that may directly or indirectly affect the safety of all individuals the public safety officers comes in contact with, including but not limited to University guests, students, and employees, and provide for and promote the delivery of safe and competent police service
- Be physically capable to perform all fundamental safety duties , as a public safety officer to include serving and protecting the community and safeguarding lives and property
- Enforce rules and regulations, as mandated by the University, and in accordance with federal, state and local guidelines
- Conduct patrols, security checks, parking enforcement, property accountability, security escorts, and building safety and access control
- Must demonstrate and have the ability to provide a safe and welcoming campus in all extreme weather conditions, or where unexpected changes and unsafe conditions exist
- Establish and maintain positive working relationships with community groups, student organizations, and all members of the university community
- Assist in developing, planning, and conducting crime prevention and community relations programs and activities
- Respond to emergency calls, conduct investigations, interview witnesses and victims and assist University Police regarding violations to the student conduct process, and prepares a variety of written and oral reports
- Provide impartial assistance to the public in emergency and non-emergency situations
- Administer first aid, and request appropriate medical assistance when required
- Emphasis must be placed on positive communication and interaction with students, employees and visitors
- Conduct assigned patrols both on foot and in a patrol vehicle, and be alert for and investigate and/or report suspicious activities
- Enhance safety by addressing student behavioral issues
- Appear and testify in court proceedings, and participate in the Student Code of Conduct disciplinary process when requested
- Assists citizens with complaints and inquiries or direct them to the appropriate authority
- Adhere to all written directives, procedures and rules and regulations of the University of Scranton Police Department and the University of Scranton
- Must be available to work an assigned shift, to include days, nights, weekends and holidays
- Successfully complete a comprehensive field training program
- Maintain a knowledge of buildings, fire alarm panels, intrusion alarms and any locking procedures – Strong problem solving and critical thinking skills
- Provide security at special events, athletic events
- Maintain a working knowledge of the Emergency Communications Center
Qualifications:
- High School diploma or equivalent is required
- Knowledge of the Clery Act
- Previous experience working in higher education
- Must be a citizen of the United States
- Must be 19 years of age or older
- Must possess a valid driver’s license and Ability to operate a motor vehicle
- Must possess the requisite skills, knowledge, and abilities to be a public safety officer
- Must be physically capable to perform the duties of a public safety officer
- Prior security experience preferred

Must be of good moral character. If offered employment, must submit to a background investigation, to include:
- A criminal record check for convictions of any disqualifying criminal offense
- A driving record
- A drug screen for drug and alcohol which shall be determined using laboratory testing procedures
- Must have the visual and hearing acuity acceptable for performing all functions and responsibilities of a public safety officer
Second and Third Shift; 8 hour shifts (40 hrs/wk); days can vary based on need.
