The Manager of the Center for Teaching Excellence (CTE) plays a vital role in advancing instructional quality and innovation across the university. This position provides strategic leadership for the CTE, overseeing faculty development initiatives and promoting excellence in teaching. Additionally, the role serves as the lead instructional designer and primary campus expert on the Brightspace learning management system (LMS), supporting the development of engaging, accessible, and high-quality learning experiences across all instructional modalities.

Essential Functions:

Center for Teaching Excellence (CTE) Management
Provide leadership and vision to fulfill the Center’s mission of supporting instructional excellence and innovation across all modalities
- Design, implement, and evaluate professional development opportunities in collaboration with the CTE Faculty Coordinator including workshops, seminars, and resources tailored to faculty needs
- Collaborate with faculty to assess instructional challenges and create responsive solutions in collaboration with the CTE Faculty Coordinator
- Stay informed about current trends and research in pedagogy and higher education teaching practices
- Offer ongoing Brightspace support to faculty, staff, and students
- Oversee the course evaluation process, including scheduling and communications
- Manage the Academic Integrity Tutorial, including student notifications and reporting deficiencies to deans
- Supervise CTE staff, including work-study tech-con students
- Coordinate faculty teaching award processes
- Administer the CTE department budget
- Maintain and update the CTE website to ensure accessibility and current information

Instructional Design & LMS Support
Serve as the campus lead and subject matter expert of instructional design for Brightspace
- Support faculty in designing and enhancing online, hybrid, and technology-enhanced courses
- In collaboration with the CTE Faculty Coordinator provide individual consultations and group training on course design, instructional best practices, regular and substantive interaction (RSI) and universal design for learning (UDL)
- Create and maintain instructional templates, guides, and resources to facilitate effective Brightspace use
- Assist with term-to-term course rollovers and content updates
- Troubleshoot LMS-related issues in coordination with faculty, IT, and external support teams
- Collaborate with departments to ensure course quality, including adherence to accreditation, accessibility, and instructional standards.

Strategic Planning & Campus Collaboration
Partner with IT, Library Services, Disability Services, and academic leadership on cross-campus teaching and learning initiatives
- Contribute to strategic planning efforts related to instructional innovation, LMS implementation, and faculty support
- Assess and report the impact of CTE programs and instructional design services on faculty development and student learning outcomes
- Serve as Co-Chair of the CTE/OSSS Advisory Committee and represent CTE on university-wide committees
 
Qualifications:
- Master’s degree in Instructional Design, Educational Technology, Curriculum & Instruction, or a related field
- Three (3) to five (5) years of experience in instructional design, academic technology, or faculty development in higher education
- Expertise in learning management systems, especially Brightspace (D2L)
- Demonstrated experience designing and supporting online and hybrid courses
- Familiarity with evidence-based instructional practices and assessment strategies
