Position Summary: The Director of Community Revitalization will oversee and lead community revitalization initiatives, including the Carbondale and South Side Farmers Markets, while managing the implementation of a comprehensive community plan for the Pine Brook neighborhood. In this role, the Director will lead a team of coordinators, ensuring effective program management and community engagement across multiple projects. The Director will work collaboratively with community stakeholders to foster engagement, support local vendors and farmers, and implement a variety of revitalization and outreach programs. This role also oversees key community programs such as the DCED Business and Residential Façade Program and coordinates the Small Business Alliance activities. The Director reports directly to the Chief Operating Officer and works 40 hours per week, with occasional evening and Saturday hours required.
This role requires flexibility in working hours to accommodate market operations, community outreach, and evening or weekend events. The Director will work both in an office environment and in various community settings.
Responsibilities:
- Team Leadership:
- Lead, mentor, and supervise a team of coordinators responsible for implementing community programs and managing daily operations.
- Ensure effective communication, collaboration, and performance management within the team to achieve project goals.
- Farmers Markets Management:
- Oversee operations of the Carbondale and South Side Farmers Markets, including vendor recruitment and support, market promotions, and customer outreach.
- Develop and execute marketing plans to increase sales and attendance, utilizing social media, newspapers, and online platforms.
- Promote SNAP/EBT and Food Trust programs to market consumers and build relationships with social service agencies and community partners to extend outreach.
- Monitor program outcomes and maintain data management systems to track key metrics.
- Community Revitalization:
- Assist with the implementation of a comprehensive community plan for the Pine Brook neighborhood, working closely with committees, agencies, and local stakeholders.
- Implement and oversee the DCED Business and Residential Façade Program and support Small Business Alliance initiatives.
- Identify and develop innovative community programs that address emerging needs, building relationships across diverse neighborhood communities.
- Coordinate and manage volunteers for various projects and committees.
- Program Development and Outreach:
- Organize community events, promotions, and outreach programs to engage local residents and support neighborhood revitalization efforts.
- Lead marketing and outreach strategies through social media and other communication channels to enhance program visibility and participation.
- Support administrative requirements for programs such as the Elm Street initiative by collecting data and submitting reports.
Special Knowledge/Skills:
- Experience in team leadership, community outreach, organizing, or customer service.
- Proven ability to manage multiple projects and balance competing priorities.
- Strong organizational skills with experience in volunteer recruitment and coordination.
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to engage a variety of stakeholders.
- Proficiency in social media marketing and digital communication strategies.
- Ability to work both independently and collaboratively with a team.
- Computer literacy, including proficiency in Microsoft Office and common applications.
Education/Experience/Licensure:
- Bachelors degree in social work, public administration, community development, or a related field required.
- Minimum 5 years in a supervisory role managing direct report employees is required.
- Availability to work occasional evenings and weekends to support community events and programs is required.
- Familiarity with MS Office 365 and other relevant software tools is preferred.
