Position Summary
We are seeking a highly skilled and self-motivated Field Installation & Application Engineer to join our team. This position is a hybrid role, ideal for a technical expert who is as comfortable with hands-on mechanical installation as they are with software and firmware configuration.
The successful candidate will be responsible for traveling to customer sites to install, configure, test, and support our advanced technical systems. This role requires a high degree of independence, technical proficiency across multiple disciplines, and the professionalism to serve as the face of the company in the field.
This position is home-based and must be located in or near Jessup, PA. The ability to pass a DoD National Agency Check (NAC) is a mandatory requirement for this role.
Key Responsibilities
Field Installation: Perform hands-on installation of system hardware at customer sites. This includes (but is not limited to) drilling, mounting, and assembly using power tools and pop riveters.
Site Preparation: Conduct detailed surface preparation and apply field adhesives according to precise technical specifications, ensuring long-term hardware integrity.
System Configuration: Configure digital systems, set firmware parameters, and upload proprietary code and software to devices.
Software Troubleshooting: Utilize a strong understanding of POSIX/LINUX environments to configure, troubleshoot, and validate system operations.
Customer Support: Provide on-site application support, system commissioning, and training to customers, ensuring full operational capability and customer satisfaction.
Travel & Logistics: Manage all aspects of travel, which will be up to 50% within the United States, and maintain service-related documentation.
Reporting: Complete detailed field service reports, site logs, and expense reports in a timely and accurate manner.
Independent Operation: Work independently from a home-based office, managing your schedule and service priorities effectively.
Required Qualifications
Security Clearance: Must be a U.S. citizen and able to pass a DoD National Agency Check (NAC).
Location: Must reside in or near the Jessup, PA area.
Experience (Software):
Demonstrated proficiency in POSIX/LINUX operating systems (command line, scripting, configuration).
Strong understanding of digital systems, including configuring firmware parameters and uploading code.
Experience (Hardware/Mechanical):
Skilled in the safe use of power tools (drills, drivers, etc.).
Proficient with mechanical assembly tools, including pop riveters.
Experience with technical surface preparation and the use of industrial/field adhesives.
General:
Willingness and ability to travel up to 50% of the time, sometimes on short notice.
Excellent troubleshooting, problem-solving, and critical-thinking skills.
Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to interface directly with customers.
Must be highly organized, self-motivated, and able to work with minimal supervision.
Valid U.S. Driver's License.
Preferred Qualifications (A Plus)
Soldering: NASA-certified (or equivalent J-STD) soldering skills.
Programming: Experience with IoT device programming (e.g., C/C++, Python) and protocols (MQTT, CoAP).
Education: Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or a related technical field.
Experience: Prior experience working on-site at government or DoD facilities.
Physical Demands
Ability to travel by air and car.
Ability to lift and carry tools and equipment up to 50 lbs.
Ability to stand, kneel, bend, and work in various physical positions for extended periods during installations.
