IMPACT STATEMENT
The Loan Review Clerk plays a critical role in safeguarding the Bank’s financial strength and regulatory compliance. By ensuring the accuracy, quality, and integrity of loan documentation and risk ratings, this position directly supports sound credit decision-making, early identification of emerging risks, and the long-term stability of the loan portfolio.
POSITION SUMMARY:
The Loan Review Clerk provides essential support to the Loan Review Department by performing daily review activities, preparing reports, and evaluating a variety of loan types for compliance with Bank policies, regulatory requirements, and sound credit practices. This position helps maintain the accuracy of loan data, identifies potential credit weaknesses, and supports continuous improvement of the Bank’s loan review processes.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS and DUTIES:
Loan Review & Analysis
- Perform reviews of loans of varying complexity to identify potential problem credits early and help prevent losses.
- Review new commercial loans and samples of consumer and residential loans for credit quality, adherence to Loan Policy and lending authorities, proper documentation, and compliance with OCC regulations.
- Ensure the accuracy of risk ratings within the loan portfolio and recommend changes when appropriate.
- Identify policy exceptions and monitor loans with exceptions on an ongoing basis.
- Conduct secondary reviews of declined and withdrawn consumer and commercial loans for regulatory compliance.
Reporting & Documentation
- Distribute monthly reports to support the commercial lending and credit departments.
- Reconcile assigned general ledger accounts monthly.
- Maintain logs, including life insurance assignment verifications for annual-review borrowers.
- Provide quarterly reports of loans secured by stocks.
- Index loan documents into Xperience and complete modification forms as received.
Customer & Department Support
- Respond to credit reference requests on behalf of customers.
- Assist the Loan Review Officer, Chief Credit Officer, Chief Lending Officer, and other departments (Loan Operations, Collections, Credit) as needed.
- Support modernization efforts within the Loan Review function.
- Ensure the operations manual remains current and accurate.
- Recommend process improvements to enhance efficiency and accuracy.
Community & Organizational Engagement
- Participate in community affairs to increase the Bank’s visibility and support business development opportunities.
- Perform additional duties and responsibilities as assigned.
REQUIRED SKILLS and ABILITIES:
- Strong analytical and critical-thinking skills with the ability to identify trends, inconsistencies, and potential risks.
- High attention to detail and accuracy in reviewing documentation and data.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, especially Excel.
- Effective written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work independently while contributing to a collaborative team environment.
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks and deadlines.
- Professionalism, discretion, and sound judgment when handling confidential information.
REQUIRED EDUCATION and EXPERIENCE:
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- No specialized training required; however, experience in banking, lending, credit analysis, or loan operations is preferred.
- Familiarity with loan documentation, regulatory requirements, or financial analysis is a plus.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Ability to work in a standard office environment.
- Must be able to reach, bend, stand, carry, walk, and lift up to 25 lbs.
