Position Summary:

United Neighborhood Centers NEPA is seeking an Assistant Director of Facilities who brings both technical capability and strong interpersonal/team management skills, including:

  • Ability to build positive relationships and collaborate effectively across departments.
  • Demonstrated experience leading, motivating, and holding teams accountable.
  • Comfort balancing team management with hands-on facilities maintenance work.
  • Strong computer literacy and ability to manage online systems used for operations and reporting.

This is not solely a technical maintenance position — it is a people-centered leadership role requiring strong communication skills (written and verbal), sound judgment, and the ability to manage/motivate teams.

This role is ideal for a facilities professional who combines strong technical knowledge with proven people management ability and a passion for building effective teams and relationships.

The Assistant Director plays a key role in ensuring UNC’s facilities remain safe, functional, and welcoming environments that support staff, residents, and community programs. Success in this role requires someone who can move comfortably between team leadership, hands on work, and collaboration with the UNC teams.

Responsibilities:

In collaboration with the Director of Facilities, the Assistant Director will:

  • Provide leadership, direction, and daily coordination for maintenance staff across multiple locations.
  • Build a culture of accountability, professionalism, and responsiveness.
  • Coach, motivate, and develop team members to strengthen performance and engagement.
  • Address performance concerns constructively through coaching, feedback, and performance management practices.
  • Establish clear expectations, priorities, and service standards.
  • Coordinate preventative and corrective maintenance across all UNC properties.
  • Conduct regular facility inspections and identify opportunities for improvement.
  • Timely management of the agency’s online maintenance management system (MaintenX) to track work orders, preventative maintenance, and service completion.
  • Provide hands-on technical support of building systems including HVAC, electrical, plumbing, security, fire safety, internet, and phone services.
  • Coordinate and supervise outside contractors and service providers.
  • Build strong, positive working relationships with vendors.
  • Coordinate after-hours emergency response as needed.
  • Assist with facility-related insurance claims and documentation.
  • All other duties as assigned.

Education/Experience/Licensure:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent required; Bachelor’s degree preferred.
  • Minimum five (5) years of facilities maintenance or building systems experience.
  • Prior supervisory or team leadership experience is required.
  • Experience coordinating vendors or multi-site operations is required.
  • Proficiency using Microsoft 365 (Outlook, Teams, Excel, and Word).
  • Experience using computerized maintenance management systems (such as MaintenX), strongly preferred.
  • Valid driver’s license required.
