Business Development Intern
Reports To: Vice President, Business and Workforce Development

Position Overview
The Business Development Intern will support the Chamber of Commerce’s Business Development Department while assisting with marketing and communications initiatives that advance organizational and affiliate priorities.
This role will help foster relationships with businesses, support strategic initiatives, and promote economic and workforce growth throughout our community. The position offers hands-on experience in economic and workforce development, marketing, communications, networking, and project management within a collaborative professional environment.
Key Responsibilities
Content Development
- Write and edit content for press releases, the Chamber’s magazine, and social media channels.
- Create compelling, audience-targeted messaging across multiple platforms.
Social Media Management
- Design and develop graphics for social media posts and campaigns.
- Assist in maintaining and growing the Chamber’s presence on platforms such as Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn.
Collaborative Projects
- Contribute to the development of marketing materials and promotional campaigns related to The Scranton Plan.
- Work closely with team members on storytelling and branding initiatives.
Data Collection and Analysis
- Gather and analyze information on local businesses, including job functions, employment counts, and available open positions.
- Organize data using Microsoft Excel, Google Sheets, or other analysis tools for clear reporting.
Research and Report Writing
- Conduct in-depth research on targeted business development sectors.
- Draft white papers and reports to support strategic initiatives.
Marketing and Sales Support
- Collaborate with the Business Development team to create and refine marketing and sales materials.
Workforce Development Initiatives
- Assist with the Skills in Scranton program by implementing and analyzing a workforce development survey.
Potential Travel
- Occasional travel to industrial parks, office parks, or other sites in Lackawanna County may be required to collect data or engage with businesses.
Additional Duties
- Support other projects and tasks assigned to help achieve organizational goals.
Skills and Qualifications
- Reliable transportation and the ability to travel locally if needed (mileage reimbursement may be provided if applicable).
- Strong analytical and critical-thinking skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Google Sheets, or similar data analysis tools.
- Familiarity with survey tools (e.g., SurveyMonkey) and online research methods.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Strong attention to detail and ability to manage multiple tasks effectively.
- Interest or background in economic development, workforce development, marketing, or economics.
- Proficiency with social media platforms and basic graphic design tools (e.g., Canva or Adobe Creative Suite).
- Familiarity with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
- Basic photography and video editing skills are a plus.
- Creative, detail-oriented, and proactive.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team environment.
- Eagerness to learn and contribute to meaningful projects.
- Must be legally authorized to work in the United States. Visa sponsorship is not available for this position.
Schedule and Work Expectations
- Work schedule and hours will be determined in coordination with the Vice President of Business and Workforce Development.
• Reliable transportation may be required for occasional local travel.
• The intern is responsible for notifying the department prior to any absence.
• Business casual attire is required.
Physical Requirements and Work Environment
This position primarily operates in a professional office environment. The role may occasionally require standing for extended periods during events or meetings and lifting materials related to program preparation or outreach activities.
