About Us

Leadership Lackawanna is a nonprofit organization in northeastern Pennsylvania dedicated to community leadership and professional development. Its five programs—Tomorrow’s Leaders Today, Core, Executive, Leadership Fundamentals, and Welcome Scranton—enhance the skills and knowledge of emerging citizens and experienced professionals, enabling them to better serve their organizations and communities.

Established in 1982, Leadership Lackawanna has graduated more than 2,700 community leaders. Through its programs, the organization continues to cultivate leadership, civic engagement, and professional development throughout the region.

 

Position Overview

The Leadership Lackawanna Intern supports the organization’s communications, marketing, and program operations. This position assists with the development of marketing materials, social media management, program coordination, and administrative tasks related to Leadership Lackawanna’s programs and initiatives.

The intern will gain hands-on experience in nonprofit management, communications, event planning, and leadership development programming. Opportunities may also be available to observe program sessions and attend board or committee meetings as scheduling permits.

 

Key Responsibilities

Marketing and Communications Support

  • Assist with marketing, communications, and public relations initiatives.
  • Create newsletters and marketing materials using Adobe InDesign or similar tools.
  • Draft press releases and written communications.
  • Assist with managing social media platforms including Facebook, Instagram, and LinkedIn.
  • Assist in developing newsletters using MailChimp.
  • Write articles, assist with advertisements, and support communication strategies.
  • Conduct phone interviews and assist with outreach initiatives when needed.

Program Support

  • Assist with the implementation and coordination of Leadership Lackawanna’s five leadership development programs.
  • Help secure and confirm speakers and presenters.
  • Coordinate logistics related to program sessions and events.
  • Prepare participant materials and program collateral.
  • Assist with event setup, teardown, and activity preparation.
  • Compile participant feedback, data, and program evaluations.

Research and Data Management

  • Research records of past class participants and board members for inclusion in Leadership Lackawanna’s database.
  • Assist with maintaining accurate program and alumni records.

Administrative Support

  • Provide general office support including filing, photocopying, data entry, and administrative tasks.
  • Assist with office errands and general organizational support.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned to support program operations.

 

Skills and Qualifications

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office including Word, Excel, and Publisher.
  • Experience using social media platforms for communication or marketing purposes.
  • Data entry experience and attention to detail.
  • Strong editing and proofreading skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines.
  • Familiarity with Adobe Creative Suite or graphic design tools is preferred.
  • Strong organizational, communication, and time management skills.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team environment.
  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States. Visa sponsorship is not available for this position.

 

Schedule and Work Expectations

  • Work schedule and hours will be determined in coordination with the Executive Director.
  • The anticipated schedule is approximately three days per week from 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
  • Reliable transportation is required.
  • The intern is responsible for notifying the Leadership Lackawanna office prior to any absence.
  • Business casual attire is required.

 

Physical Requirements and Work Environment

This position primarily operates in a professional office environment. The role may occasionally require standing for extended periods during program sessions or events and lifting materials related to program preparation.
