The Dean of the School of Management is the principal administrator of the School of Management, responsible to the Provost/Academic Vice President for the operation of that school.
Essential Duties:
- Maintain AACSB accreditation and participation in University accreditation efforts
- Review and indicate support or non-support of curricular proposals
- Supervise the implementation and closure of academic programs
- Supervise the periodic review and evaluation of both academic and non-academic programs
- Review and approve or reject course offerings
- Determine the need for new or replacement faculty positions
- Oversee faculty hiring and orientation
- Facilitate faculty development within available budget
- Participate in KSOM faculty and staff evaluations
- Make recommendations concerning faculty status, rank and tenure
- Establish and monitor faculty workload
- Allocate research release time for faculty as appropriate
- Manage and support advising center staff
- Oversee the monitoring of students’ academic status, student advising and school support for student success and retention
- Help students address problems with courses and/or faculty when appropriate
- Facilitate student placement where appropriate
- Work with faculty to create a strategic plan, and review the plan and its KPI’s annually
- Serve as the college budget administrator; review, approve or reject departmental and program budget requests
- Facilitate revenue growth and innovation
- Supervise the staff of the dean’s office and oversee staff supervision throughout the school
- Oversee the work of departmental chairpersons
- Appoint and oversee the work of Program Directors and Program Coordinators
- Serve as chair of the KSOM Dean’s Conference
- Represent the school to external constituencies
- Develop and maintain relationships with the business community
- Maintain a Business Advisory Council and a Student Advisory Board
- Engage in securing external funding for projects and programs as appropriate
- Responsible for planning, development, supervision, and budgeting of non-curricular programs including the Small Business Development Center
- Supervise the Business Leadership Program, the Business Honors Program and the Kania Center for Professional Development
- Coordinate appropriately with deans of the other colleges
- Chair or serve on committees as appointed by the Provost or President
