The Director of Major Gifts is responsible for developing meaningful relationships with potential and current donors to The University of Scranton. The Director is responsible for managing a portfolio of donors and prospective donors who are alumni of The University of Scranton, and facilitating all phases of the gift cycle, including: initiating contact, cultivating and moving potential donors to solicitation and closure, making solicitations, writing proposals, and stewarding donors. The Director works collaboratively with key volunteers, university leadership, Advancement staff and other University representatives to cultivate and solicit donors for University priorities.
 
Essential Duties:
- Develop relationships for the University with donors and prospective donors to secure financial support for University priorities
- Manage a portfolio of upwards of 150 prospect households and achieve stated individual performance metrics related to prospect qualification, cultivation, solicitation and planned giving targets focused at gift levels of $50,000 and greater
- Prepare proposals for gift solicitations that may include major, planned and annual fund gift components; focus on securing support for campus-wide priorities/initiatives
- Remain well-informed about the university’s academic programs and fundraising goals in order to align prospect work with identified institutional priorities
- Partner closely with the Deans to stay informed on programs, strategic priorities, and fundraising goals, aligning prospect strategies with both college and institutional priorities
- Serve as a key resource to Advancement staff, sharing updates on college priorities and strategic initiatives
- Proactive in the development of stewardship strategies to achieve high donor satisfaction and increased philanthropic support; oversee stewardship strategies for assigned prospects and/or projects
-Serve as Advancement representative at key meetings and as liaison to/from Advancement team
-Support initiatives sponsored by offices both within University Advancement and across campus; events include, but not limited to President’s Business Council, Parents’ Executive Council, Athletics, Reunion and Career Services
-In collaboration with Advancement Team, develop an integrated approach to strengthen Scranton’s presence and impact with high capacity prospects
- Expand the philanthropic base for support through measurable increases in prospect qualification and total giving goals
- Recruit volunteer leadership representative of regional and college representation
 
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent combination of education and experience
- Five (5) years or more of related work experience
- Valid Driver’s License
- Requires frequent travel to meet with donors and flexibility to work evenings and weekends in support of donor engagement and fundraising goals
