Lackawanna College School of Hospitality is seeking skilled and energetic adjuncts for our Culinary Arts program. Qualified applicants must possess a College degree with a minimum of 18 credits within the culinary field or Associates Degree in Culinary Arts.  Qualified applicants must also possess a strong culinary background with a focus on creativity and attention to detail. Applicants should also have a customer-focused approach in helping to meet the needs of our students.

BASIC FUNCTION AND RESPONSIBILITY:

Adjunct Instructors are assigned on a semester-by-semester basis. Courses may be offered during the day, evening, online or using other distance learning formats. Adjunct instructors will be responsible for working within the institution's mission to teach the objectives of the assigned course. More specifically, the adjunct instructor will be required to perform the following responsibilities:

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  1. Plan, prepare & deliver lesson plans in didactic, classroom and/or kitchen lab setting in order to promote student success.
  1. Promote student success through informed, accessible professional engagement that supports both the departmental and college wide mission.
  1. Prepare daily lesson plans for each course using the assigned course descriptions and objectives.
  2. Completes and maintains all required documentation and records, including, but not limited to, grades, attendance and student learning outcomes.
  1. Use current trends and technology to enhance instructional effectiveness, including but not limited to computers, videos, guest speakers, field trips, etc.
  2. Demonstrate a customer focused approach to the development and advancement of our students on an emotional, social, and educational level.
  3. Be able to work in a flexible culinary lab environment that will consist of moving light to heavy equipment to accommodate any given class.
  4. Be able to endure prolonged periods of standing in a teaching environment. Be able to lift items weighing up to 50 pounds. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.
  5. Performs other duties as assigned.

Desired Qualifications/Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree with a minimum of 18 credits within the culinary field or Associates Degree in Culinary Arts
  • Strong knowledge of culinary principles, theories, and techniques
  • Two years successful related work experience
  • Strong restaurant experience with an emphasis on ala carte execution
  • Ability to work within a team environment
