The general duties of a special education teacher include providing individualized academic support to students with Individualized Educational Programs; planning and delivering appropriate lessons and activities to reinforce district curriculum; creating and maintaining a safe and welcoming learning environment for students; working as part of the multi-disciplinary team to develop, monitor, and maintain students' Individualized Educational Programs; conducting progress monitoring; communicating effectively with students, parents, colleagues, and administration; coordinating the effective utilization of support staff and agency personnel; and fulfilling all other duties associated with the role of a special education teacher.
